TAGDev program is dedicated in ensuring that the students are adequately prepared in utilizing the acquired knowledge while at school for enhanced agricultural transformation after completing their studies. One such approach is to educate students on how to source for funding through Non-Governmental Organizations, especially those focusing on agricultural activities and community development and providing insight on requirements for employment so that as they graduate they can be able to adapt easily. To achieve this objective, the program organized a seminar on opportunities in the NGO world and requirements for employment.
The seminar was held on 28th October 2022 at Agricultural Resource Centre (ARC) hotel, Egerton University. The seminar was meant to train students and give insight on opportunities existing in Non-governmental organizations and requirements for employment. The seminar covered topics on background information on NGOs (African context), the performance of the NGO sector, opportunities in the NGO sector, requirements for employment and sourcing for funding for NGOs. The topics covered were essential as they provided useful tips, knowledge and ideas for engaging with NGOs for students to cope with life after campus in relation to writing proposals for funding and employment.
Students were able to get insights on opportunities existing within the NGOs achieved through local networking, regional NGO networks, effective support from NGO council, corporate social responsibility, development approaches, information communication technology and international Non-Governmental Organization partnerships. Students were also able to learn that many opportunities through salaried employment, internships, social entrepreneurship and registration of Community-Based organizations (CBOs) and NGOs. Seminars on future prospects by experts from well-established organizations is important in providing information to students on how to prepare for the job market as well as establishing their own organizations.
