Lavender Atieno Ochieng was born in Kenya on 15th November 1999 in Kamagawi Village, Rangwe Sub-County, Homa Bay County. She is the fourth child in a family of six children. She began her primary education in 2004 at Rangi Primary School, where she studied until 2012. Upon completing her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), she attained a total of 357 marks. Since Rangi Primary School was a public institution, her education was largely supported by the government, and she only paid the mandatory Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) contribution, which ensured that her schooling progressed without major interruptions.
In 2013, Lavender joined Lwak Girls’ High School for her secondary education. The journey was challenging, as she was often sent home due to school fee balances. Despite these difficulties, her family made significant sacrifices to support her education, and she also relied on assistance from relatives whenever possible. Through perseverance and determination, she completed her secondary education in 2016, attaining a mean grade of B plain (64 points).
She later joined Egerton University, where she pursued a bachelor's degree in environmental science. Through dedication and hard work, she excelled in her studies and graduated with First Class Honours in July 2022. Following her graduation, Lavender began her professional journey as an intern and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) associate expert at Leads Security Limited Consultancy located in Nakuru City.
Lavender has consistently demonstrated her determination to pursue her dreams and make a meaningful impact in society. She is committed to excellence in her work and continually strives to perform at the highest level in all that she undertakes. Having grown up in a humble background, she understands the value of resilience, perseverance, and hard work. Her passion for nature and environmental protection motivates her to contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental management. Lavender aspires to become a leading environmental scientist, working to strengthen environmental systems and promote environmental health in support of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
